Running Alpha Youth in Schools is one of the most rewarding experiences, yet schools are a unique setting with their own values and boundaries. This section outlines strategies for inviting and promoting Alpha Youth in schools. It emphasises the importance of student leadership and involving young people in running Alpha Youth, while building relationships with school staff and respecting school boundaries.
Build Relationships First – If your church is already serving the school, look for ways to strengthen those relationships before introducing Alpha Youth. Consider supporting the school in other ways to build trust.
Student Led – Young people connected to their local church can approach the Head Teacher, Head of Year, or R.E teachers to request running Alpha Youth, with support from their church.
Staff Led – A school staff member connected to a local church seeks permission to run Alpha in their classroom.
Church Leader Led – Approach the school directly and request a meeting with the Head Teacher or Head of R.E. Bring materials and share positive feedback from other local schools using Alpha Youth. Respect the school’s boundaries as an educational setting.
Follow-Up Opportunities – If the school is already involved with another Christian programme, offer Alpha as a follow-up series.
Peer Invitations – Encourage pupils to invite their friends to join Alpha Youth.
School Assembly – Preview and promote Alpha Youth during a school assembly.
Information Fairs – Set up a booth at school information or club fairs to promote Alpha Youth.
Follow-Up Programmes – Use Alpha Youth as a follow-up to other school programs you're already involved in.
Posters – Display posters around the school to raise awareness.
Student Leadership – Alpha Youth works best when pupils are involved in leading and promoting Alpha Youth, including approaching teachers and hosting sessions.
Engage with School Staff – Pupils can approach the Head Teacher or Head of Year to request running Alpha Youth.
Support & Training – Provide young leaders with support and training from local church Youth Leaders to ensure its effectiveness.
