The Alpha Youth Day away is the place where great friendships are solidified. It is also the best place to introduce people to the Holy Spirit. Over the first five weeks, young people explore the basics of Christianity, leading to this extended session—usually on a Saturday—where they’re invited to encounter the Holy Spirit. It includes two episodes, though schools may need to split them over two sessions or run them outside regular hours.

Keep In Mind

  • Praying for Others – For many students, praying together or receiving prayer is new. Make it comfortable by simply asking if they’d like to be prayed for—if they say no, don’t take it personally. There will be other opportunities!

  • Stay Flexible – If running both episodes in one session isn’t possible, spread them over two weeks. The impact remains the same!

How To Run

  • Partnering with local Churches provides essential support for the Alpha Youth Day, from connecting with a Youth Pastor to having volunteers to pray for the students. It also helps young people find a community to grow in beyond Alpha.

  • Prayer Teams – Have prayer teams available throughout the sessions for those who want specific prayer, with clear times during the schedule for people to approach them.

  • Make it Fun! – Use this time to connect! Mix up the program, add games, or order Domino’s. Get students involved in planning—ask how they’d engage their friends best!

  • Prayer Stations or Personal Prayer Time – Setting up a prayer space with prompts, activities and visual aids (like prayer cards or scripture) to guide private reflection.

Setting The Tone

  • Prayer at the Centre – Prayer is a vital part of running Alpha Youth and is a great opportunity to engage the local church. Consider creating a team who can regularly pray for your local school and the young people throughout the series.

  • Train Your Team – Make sure you and your team watch the Training Video on Prayer, it's important that everyone knows what the most effective and safe ways are to pray for young people.
