Alpha Youth in schools can have a great impact when it’s run as an After-School Club. This setting gives you the time and space to run the full Alpha Youth session—complete with food, games, the full video, and meaningful small group discussion. Without the time pressure of a school day, young people can relax, engage more deeply, and build stronger connections with each other and the team.
Keep In Mind
Train Your Team! – Ensure that volunteers understand the school’s culture and adapt their language, context, and approach accordingly.
School Approval Matters – The school has the final say on club content, so open, transparent conversations should happen in advance.
Student Eligibility – Some students facing disciplinary actions may not be allowed to attend after-school clubs.
How To Run
Set Clear Expectations – Start with a taster event, like an Alpha Youth Launch Party, to introduce the experience.
Choose the Right Time – Avoid scheduling Alpha Youth when many other clubs are running.
Equip Your Leaders – Train volunteers and student leaders to ensure their approach fits the school setting.
Empower Students – Encourage them to facilitate breakout discussions rather than lead the entire session.
Best Timing – Run Alpha Youth once a year, ideally from Christmas to Easter, avoiding the busy start of the school year and summer term.
Setting The Tone
Snacks & Drinks Matter – They create a welcoming atmosphere.
Set the Right Environment – Choose a comfortable space, use music, and arrange the room creatively, remember Alpha Youth is all about circles for discussion.
Warm Welcome – Have someone on the door to greet students.
Be Present After Sessions – Many students rush off after class; take time to check in and engage in post-session discussions.
Keep Sessions Short – Less than an hour works best.
Optimal Group Size – Keep small groups between 6-8 students to encourage participation.
