Working for Reform
Paul Cowley in recent years has tirelessly contributed to reforming prison standards, championed the worth of ex-offenders and attempted to combat poverty around the world. In a ceremony held on 21 November at the prestigious Church House in the heart of Westminster, his work was celebrated and The Longford Trust presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Longford Trust was established to memorialise the achievements of Lord Longford and continue his work with those living in poverty, and those struggling within prisons and with the challenges of life upon their release.
Paul Cowley has furthered Longford’s efforts. He is an ordained minister, the Executive Director of The William Wilberforce Trust and the founder of the organisation Caring for Ex-offenders. He is especially passionate about bringing Alpha into prisons and has travelled the world, from Australia to Zambia, in order to make this happen. Through his efforts he has seen a global improvement in prison standards, the upkeep of the human rights of offenders, and the equipping of local churches around the world in order to support marginalised groups.
Paul was presented with the award by Channel 4 broadcaster Jon Snow and human rights activist Bianca Jagger and received further praise from Nicholas Chance, Private Secretary to HRH Prince Michael of Kent. Chance proclaimed that Cowley’s leadership has transformed many lives globally.
